Lecture Abstract
Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is one of the most common types of infections in humans, affecting females more frequently than males. It may be caused by Gram-Positive or Gram-Negative bacteria. Depending on the gender of the patient, the presence of underlying urinary tract anomalies, and the existence of foreign objects in the urinary tract, UTI can be classified as complicated or uncomplicated. In the primary care setting, broad-spectrum antibiotics are often employed in the treatment of UTI, contributing to a rise in multi-drug resistant bacterial strains.
In this webinar, Associate Professor Juan Pablo Bifani (Department of Microbiology & Immunology, the National University of Singapore) will discuss the incidence of antimicrobial resistance in the context of UTI, its associated microbiological landscape, and the importance of antibiotic stewardship.
