Longstanding inflammation induced by the hepatitis B virus leads to liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. Conventionally, liver histology is required to assess the degree of liver fibrosis/ cirrhosis through liver biopsy, which is an invasive procedure. However, in recent years, imaging-based techniques and serum biomarkers have become more popular as alternative tools for liver fibrosis and cirrhosis assessment. One of these serum biomarkers is Mac-2 binding protein glycoslation isomer (M2BPGi), which is one of the glycoproteins that deposit in the extracellular matrix. Studies had shown that serum M2BPGi levels increase proportionally with advancing stages of fibrosis/ cirrhosis, as assessed either by liver biopsy or transient elastography.

In this webinar, Prof. Yuen will share his experience with M2BPGi and discuss its role in chronic hepatitis B.
