Lecture Abstract
In the past 30 years, global cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) have doubled to 523 million cases, witha mortality rate of 18.6 million per year. CVDs, especially ischaemic heart disease, are the leading nglobal cause of death and economic burden. While high-income countries see a decline, low- and middle-income countries, like most countries in the Asia Pacific region, witness rising mortality, especially among younger populations.
Prevention should focus on managing modifiable risk factors, such as hyperlipidaemia, hypertension, smoking, and diabetes. Clinical chemistry and coagulation tests are crucial for understanding and managing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk.
