Laboratory Diagnosis of Anaemia and Early Detection with RET-He
Lecture Abstract
Anaemia is a global health problem and the most common hematologic disorder seen in medical practice, with iron deficiency being the major cause of Anaemias worldwide.
While routine haematological parameters and biochemical studies help in identifying causes of anaemia, Reticulocyte Haemoglobin Equivalent (RET-He) gives real-time information about iron status, erythropoietic activity and also helps in the management of anaemia. Its ability to help differentiate Iron deficiency from Functional Iron deficiency makes it a valuable tool in laboratory diagnosis.
RET-He and the additional parameters obtained in this channel play a major role in improving patient outcomes in chronic kidney disease, inflammatory conditions and also detecting Latent Iron deficiency in blood donors.
