Abstract: Platelets are classically known as essential cellular mediators of haemostasis and thrombosis. Qualitative and/or quantitative platelet defects may result in clinical consequences such as bleeding or thrombosis. Laboratory diagnosis of platelet disorders is an important part of haematological test service albeit, it is often limited to referral laboratories at tertiary hospitals due to its typical demand on technical expertise and expensive instrument. With the advent of technologies, there are different options of ‘simplified’ platelet function assays made available to most laboratories. In this webinar, the speaker will discuss the considerations for setting up platelet function tests at laboratories to aid in clinical management of patients with platelet-mediated diseases.
